The Glorious Mercy of the Lord has been the focus of this verse. Let us learn from what it says.

1. Of the Lord — Only the God of the covenant has the power to extend mercy to them who are truly undeserving. For He established His covenant with mankind through Abraham (Genesis 12:3) and He alone is faithful to accomplish what He had promised (Genesis 15:17). This covenant is fulfilled solely by His great mercy, not by human effort or merit.

The greatest demonstration of the mercy of God is the gift of His only begotten Son (John 3:16), who bore the penalty for our sins — a debt we could never afford to repay ourselves. And only when we recognize our spiritual poverty (Matthew 5:3), genuinely repent of our sins (Mark 1:15), and place our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as the only source of God's mercy (John 3:15) we will be granted the hope of seeing the glory and splendor of heaven.

2. In the Heavens — The mercy of God is established forever. It is eternal, never failing and unchanging. As surely as the heavens abide, His mercy remains faithful. His compassion is seen every morning for "It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness." (Lamentations 3:22–23). We could have been destroyed in our sin, but His mercy which will never be exhausted by our failures, nor declined by the passing of time, will continue to flow from His unending faithfulness.

3. Thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds — This expression illustrates the unfathomable greatness of God's faithfulness and the vastness of His mercy. His faithfulness remains even if we stop believing in him (2 Timothy 2:13). And because His faithfulness endures forever, therefore we can trust in His mercy that it will continue forever. It is not only renewed every morning but extends beyond human understanding, reaching from the earth to the very heavens. There is no sin so great that the Lord cannot forgive (Isaiah 1:18) when a person humbly acknowledges their sin, repents, and seeks His mercy.

However, the promises of God's forgiveness when it is rejected by those who persist in unbelief like Judas Iscariot and the Pharisees, such will never received forgiveness. For they witnessed the works of Christ, recognized and understood who He claimed to be, yet they had hardened their hearts and refused to repent. By rejecting the only Savior, they chose to remain in their sin. In the same manner, those who continually reject Christ and refuse to acknowledge their guilt shut themselves out from the kingdom of heaven—not because God's mercy is inadequate, but rather that they have consciously rejected the only means by which that mercy is received.

How about you, will you acknowledge that you are a sinner who fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)? If that is the case, why not come to the Saviour today? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved (Acts 16:31).
