In What Manner should we present ourselves?

📅 February 12, 2021

And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

Mark 5:2 (KJV)
In What Manner should we present ourselves?

Here, the emphasis is on the man who immediately came to meet the Lord Jesus. This is the central thought of verse 2, drawing attention to the man’s response upon seeing Christ.

First, notice the manner in which the man presented himself to Jesus. He came with urgency. The demon-possessed man did not delay; the very moment he saw Jesus, he came to Him. There was no hesitation in approaching the Lord of lords. Despite his terrible condition, he recognized who Jesus was.

In the state of misery and bondage in which he lived, he still came directly to Christ. It was an encounter he could not resist. The moment he realized who was approaching, he immediately presented himself before the Lord. Even the evil spirits recognized Jesus as the One who had authority to judge and torment them (v. 7).

The lesson we can learn from this passage is that no one should resist coming to the Lord Jesus. Rather, we should eagerly come before the One who alone has the authority to pardon or condemn the soul.

How about you, Christian believer? In what manner do you present yourself before Christ week after week? Do you drag your feet on your way to worship? Do you approach daily Bible reading and devotion with joy and eagerness? Are you excited to come before the King of kings?

How sad and shameful it is when we who profess Christ approach Him carelessly or coldly. Let us repent of this spiritual indifference and pray that the Lord would have mercy upon us. May He restore within us a deep love and devotion toward the Father, so that we may truly seek first the Kingdom of God each day (Matthew 6:33).

O Lord, have mercy upon us and draw our hearts back to You.
