These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Acts 17:11 (KJV)
The Berean believers displayed an attitude that every Bible-believing Christian should strive to imitate. They were highly commended for the eagerness and readiness with which they received the Word of God. Their zeal did not end with simply hearing the message; rather, it stirred within them a deep desire to grow in wisdom and understanding, leading them to search the Scriptures daily with diligence, passion, and sincerity.
How about you, believer? Do you still possess the same hunger for God’s Word that you had when you first came to know the gospel? If not, now is the time to return to that devotion, remembering the Lord’s rebuke in Revelation 2:4: “…because thou hast left thy first love.” May the Lord forgive us for our spiritual apathy and graciously restore in us a noble and eager spirit like that of the Bereans.
