The Lord Jesus came to teach and not only to save humanity from hell. And our passage today declares that all the people came very early in the morning to hear him teach. In other words, they, both believers and unbelievers, made it a point to rise very early and prepare to come to the temple only to hear the teaching of the Lord.

How about you, believer? What excites you enough to rise early in the morning? It is a sobering thought that the King of Life may find us indifferent to the things of the Lord. How can we expect God to move powerfully in our lives when we give so little attention to Him?

Today, the Word of God is readily available on every phone, tablet, and computer. The Bible is everywhere — in our devices, on our tables, and within our reach — yet too often it is absent from our hearts.

Let us repent of our sins and ask the Lord to forgive our spiritual apathy. May He restore in us a deep love for Him, like the joy and passion we had when we first heard the gospel.
