But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Matthew 4:4 (KJV)
Jesus, the author of the written Word of God, declares without apology that the Word of God was and will forever be “written”. This attestation has negated all doubts that we have and forever will have the Word of God in every generation. In other words, the believer can have confidence in the Scriptures. Many try to destroy its integrity, but the Lord Jesus has full confidence in it. By His singular care, He will keep the word of God free from error in all ages.
Why should the Lord do this? Because it is a provision from God to man for his sustenance. As the Lord has sustained the universe by His power, so is the provision for man’s sustenance. He declares that “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). What an assurance for you and me. How about you, believer? Do you have full confidence in the Word of God like Jesus did? If you have, then what stops you from reading it daily? If you have doubts, why not trust in the one who made this promise that the scripture was “written and will be forever written”? Oh believer, the author of life has given us His great promise and sealed it with His blood. Will you not put your trust in Him and His written Word?
