And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
Mark 5:1 (KJV)
After a long season of ministry, Jesus led His disciples toward the region of the Gentiles. They crossed the lake according to His divine purpose and direction. This was not a random journey, but an appointed destination. He came because He intended to meet a specific person — a man despised by society, broken, hopeless, and considered a menace by others. It was a place most Jews would have avoided, yet the Lord, full of mercy and compassion, intentionally went there.
Many of us have heard this story countless times, but has its message truly left an impression upon our hearts? Have we fully understood that Christ came specifically for you? Perhaps you think highly of yourself, or perhaps you think yourself unworthy. Yet, in the end, our own estimation of ourselves is not what matters most. What truly matters is how the Lord regards us.
The very fact that you are able to read His Word today is evidence of His mercy and invitation toward you. Through the Scriptures, He calls you to hear and understand that He came personally to save you — a sinner. And He demonstrated the greatness of His love at Calvary, where He willingly gave Himself for us.
Yes, Christ came to meet you. He came to deliver you from your hopeless condition and desperate state. He came so that you might have life — not merely earthly existence, but eternal life of infinite worth. Such is the value of that life that Christ was willing to die for us, as Romans 5:8 declares.
So what are you waiting for? Will you yield yourself to His love and receive the grace He freely offers? Or will you respond like the people of that region, who rejected Him and pleaded for Him to depart from their land (Mark 5:17)?
